I am 30 years old and I have had 2 miscarriages in the last 14 months. My most recent miscarriage was this past October. My husband and I have been trying since with no luck. My fear is that I have had a reoccurring yeast infection....could this be my problemm? No doctor has ever told me this may affect anything with pregnancy.

You should have a thorough check up with your gyn which includes cervical cultures as well as a pap smear. A recurring a yeast infection would not cause a miscarriage but it could prevent the sperm from getting through the cervix so it should be treated. If you have been on antibiotics recently or are a diabetic then your body's normal bacteria flora has been altered making you prone to an overgrowth of yeast. Adding natural, unsweetened yogurt can help restore your system's good bacteria.

After two miscarriages I would strongly encourage you to see a specialist for a more thorough evaluation to determine if there is a cause. Your doctor will likely check some blood tests and do an ultrasound to evaluate your uterus. Ultimately, even with two miscarriages you still have a good chance of a healthy pregnancy! Hang in there, Dr. Reh

I have also had either a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis that has reoccured for 2 years....could this possibly effect my 2 miscarriages? I am very scared I will not be able to either conceive or hold a pregnancy...I got my period today....
Permalink Reply by anonymous on January 21, 2012 at 2:02pm I also was told I have a tilted uterus also...dont know if this means anything...
Permalink Reply by Dr. Andrea Reh on January 23, 2012 at 9:47am Hello. It is unlikely that a yeast or bacterial vaginosis could cause a miscarriage. A "tilted uterus" is usually normal - most women have a uterus that is tilted in one direction or another and that "direction" in of itself has no bearing on fertility. Having a tilted uterus can sometimes, rarely, be a sign of endometriosis, which is associated with infertility, which is why a "tilted uterus" has been perceived in such a negative light.

Is it true that bacterial vaginosis can prevent or hurt conception? I am sorry to keep asking questions, I am just very worried about my 2 miscarriages. The first miscarriage was a chemical miscarriage...just like a period as you know. That was our first attempt at conception and it worked. The second I was about 7-8 weeks along a year later after trying on and off. It is scary and due to my miscarriages, I am afraid something is wrong.
Permalink Reply by Dr. Andrea Reh on January 24, 2012 at 11:16am I would recommend having the bacterial vaginosis treated but I do not believe it was the cause of your miscarriages. After having two miscarriages I would recommend having a full evaluation done by a fertility specialist for other possible causes of recurrent pregnancy loss, although like I said earlier, the likelihood of having a healthy baby after a miscarriage is still very good!
Permalink Reply by anonymous on January 24, 2012 at 2:30pm Is it a good sign that I have gotten pregnant twice? (even though I lost it, I concieved) We have been trying off and on during the last 2 years.
Permalink Reply by John David Gordon MD on February 4, 2012 at 3:42pm Always better to have had a near miss than nothing...the data from the CDC suggests pregnancy rates in patients undergoing IVF are higher in those with prior pregnancy loss in a previous cycle compared with those that came up totally empty handed...
Good luck

I am pregnant again (just took a test 3 days ago) Sadly, the same old cramps and light bleeding are coming....The cramps feel like a menstrual period...the blood is VERY light..but tis still blood and this happened 2 times before with the result of a miscarriage. Apparently, I have no issue concieving....the issue is miscarrying. I am terrified I will never have a baby due to this.
So sorry, recurrent miscarriage is by far the cruelest form of infertility, and even though statistically a near miss is better than nothing, it is still very difficult emotionally. You really should have a thorough evaluation with a specialist prior to attempting another pregnancy.
Permalink Reply by anonymous on February 24, 2012 at 12:06pm I am going to my gyno today to get some test done....Will I not be able to have children since this is my track record? I have not miscarried yet and may not as I did the pregnancy test only 3 days ago...I am also not cramping as I am typing this...but the cramps come and go. And the very minor yet scary spotting comes and goes as well.
