Follicle Count

Started this discussion. Last reply by Dr. Andrea Reh Mar 14. 3 Replies

A couple questions about follicle count.  Is it possible to have 3 follicles maturing one day and then only 2 a couple days later?  Do they shrink?  On Sunday I was told I had 3 follicles (2 below 10…Continue

Minimal Stimulation IVF or Natural Cycle IVF

Started this discussion. Last reply by Dr. Andrea Reh Feb 10. 4 Replies

I've had my first consult with a fertility specialist today and he described minimal stimulation IVF.  In fact, it is his recommended course of action for us.  I'm curious as to thoughts about both…Continue

"Hello George, Thank you for your question.  Most women have a number of resting follicles in their ovary at any given time, anywhere from 1 to maybe over 20 follicles at a time.  Until they reach about 10mm, it is difficult to tell which…"

"Hi Robin,   It's a natural cycle.  The monitoring occured days 8 and 10 on my normal 30 day cycle.  I was told to not be surprised if egg retrieval (here's to hoping I make it there!) happened between days…"

"Hi George,       Are you doing a medicated cycle with clomid/gonadotropins or is it a natural cycle?  It sounds like it is too early to tell how many follicles will develop or if there will be one dominant follicle.  "

Follicle Count

A couple questions about follicle count.  Is it possible to have 3 follicles maturing one day and then only 2 a couple days later?  Do they shrink?  On Sunday I was told I had 3 follicles (2 below 10 and 1 around 11), but by today there's only 2 both below 10?  I'm assuming there is a bit of an art to reading an ultrasound (it all looks like aliens to me) and two different people did the ultrasound.  Thanks!  :)See More

George replied to want2bmom's discussion Anyone on their 2ww?
"Not on my 2ww - hoping to get there at this point.  It will be my first cycle if we make it there.  I did read that cramping and spotting are normal after a transfer though, so hang in there and hugs!"

"Measuring the ovarian reserve is difficult, and FSH levels at the beginning of the menstrual cycle are known to fluctuate.  A level of 10 can be normal or slightly elevated depending upon the laboratory reference values, but certainly is a…"

"Thanks, Dr. Reh.  The doctor we spoke cited two things in his recommendation - cost and likelihood of response to fertility medication.  At my age (38) and since I had an FSH of 10 on day 3 (estradiol at 55) and…"

"I can't see why minimal stim IVF would be better than regular IVF, but we will be doing NCIVF which avoids the multiple medications which for me seems like the best option."

Minimal Stimulation IVF or Natural Cycle IVF

I've had my first consult with a fertility specialist today and he described minimal stimulation IVF.  In fact, it is his recommended course of action for us.  I'm curious as to thoughts about both of these procedures.  What are the factors which lead a doctor to recommend one over the other.  He wasn't a fan of NC-IVF, btw.  Thanks! -GeorgeSee More

"Hi Seashelly, I understand your frustration oh so well.  We are struggling with what to do next, and originally had set a limit of 3 tries, but now I'm leaning toward trying stimulated IVF.  I've done IUI with meds twice, and one…"

Dominion Fertility SART Inspection: Great Job!

Last week we had a SART/CDC site inspection. All IVF clinics in the country report to the CDC as part of the Wyden Law passed back in the 1990s. Although a few clinics choose not to report we have always been members of SART and reported to the CDC. During the inspection over 50 charts are chosen at random and carefully inspected to make sure that we are honest and accurate in reporting our results. We passed with flying colors! Kudos to all of our staff that work so hard on this part of…See More
