Can I get pregnant with my own eggs at 46?

I came into work today and found a phone message waiting for me from a prospective patient asking this question "Can I get pregnant with my own eggs at 46?."

The answer is YES, NO and MAYBE.

YES, women can occasionally conceive even in their mid 40s. The problem doesn't end with conception because the pregnancy loss rate is >60% for women with their own eggs in this age group and what you really want is a baby not a positive pregnancy test.
