Is life always fair? – One person’s view of infertility
I always grew up with the expression, “Life is not fair”, but the reality in my life was, if I worked hard and was a good person, basically my life was pretty fair. Sure, I had to study a little harder then most of my friends, but I still received good grades. I wasn’t the star soccer player, but I at least made the team. Overall, my parents loved me and were good to me and while my health wasn’t perfect, it was nothing to…Continue

Hello everyone – Dr. DiMattina here. For stimulated IVF, most of the premier IVF centers around the world now only transfer frozen thawed embryos (FET). Here’s why.
Stimulated IVF continues to rapidly evolve and especially so in the last 4 years. Traditionally, in a stimulated IVF cycle, embryos are produced and a fresh embryo transferred back into the uterus. Any extra embryos are cryopreserved and stored for later embryo transfer if needed. Well that has all…Continue

I actually had a full set of Encyclopedia Britannica’s when I was growing up. I was so excited when my mom purchased them from the door to door salesman. They sent a new one or two every month until the set was complete. It was awesome – if I wanted to know something, I would just go to the right letter of the alphabet, get…

Often times when I meet a new patient in our office, I am asked “Will you be my nurse?” My answer is to that is “Yes..”And so will Beth, Amy, Erin, Jana, Nichol, Stephanie, and Latoya! Some clinics use a primary nurse system, where essentially the patients are given one nurse who does everything for that patient. This type of system has its benefits, and its limitations. One the plus side, a patient can call the office and ask to speak with a specific…Continue

Receiving baby pictures from patients is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a fertility doctor. Today I wanted to share a particularly beautiful one I received. (The patient agreed to let her baby have his fifteen minutes of fame!) This patient and baby are special in that she had several medical issues that we uncovered and it took several treatment attempts to get her through a safe pregnancy.
And of course, I love the picture because you get to see not only baby,…Continue

I recently had the privilege of taking care of a wonderful young woman who was diagnosed with cancer and consulted me regarding egg freezing to preserve her fertility prior to chemotherapy. We were able to start an egg freezing cycle right away and obtained a good amount of eggs to preserve this young woman’s fertility.
Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is becoming quite common and is not only indicated for patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for…Continue

I thought since Dominion Fertility nursing staff is off to a great start with their Fitness Challenge, this might be a good time to offer nutrition and fitness tips that everyone can apply to their daily lifestyle. The best way to improve your diet or add activity to your schedule is to plan ahead. You need to commit, otherwise it will be easy to let things slip during your busy day. For example: Walk 3 miles on Monday, Wednesday,…Continue
